87% increase in appointments to heart failure clinic

A few days ago, I reported on some alarming data from St Guys’ and St Thomas’ relating to their heart failure clinic activity:

Dead Man Talking
Referrals to Heart Failure Diagnostic Clinic
Well, this is interesting… There was a significant rise in heart failure diagnostic clinic referrals beginning in October 2019 and peaking in January 2020. Could this be indicative of COVID before it was officially recognised? The second wave, peaking in November 2020 is much worse even though COVID itself was much less severe. Is this due to the collater…

It turns out the same alarm bells are ringing in Birmingham:

Still no cause for alarm according to the Public Health Authorities despite an 87% increase from July ‘21 to Mar ‘22 compared to the same period the previous year, a monthly average of 183 appointments versus 98.

Are they just catching up with the backlog?

Doesn’t look like it to me. It looks to me like something triggered a sudden explosion of heart failure around the start of 2021, peaking in Sept and only now returning to usual levels.

And what are the “authorities” doing?

Pumping out bogus studies trying to convince you there’s nothing to see here.

Important to consider multiple hypotheses of course, while it's possible this is due to vaccines, some other confounders like the failed policies to eradicate Covid also had effect of raising all the things that are linked to heart disease (not to mention increasing susceptibility to viruses by weakening our immune system - go figure). Stress, poor diet, lack of exercise, alcohol consumption - all are well documented consequences of our quest for Zero Covid. Should not be surprised that after 2 years the compounding effects yield more heart disease in a population - especially when coupled with decreases in preventative care, wellness visits, etc.

My wife's a vascular surgeon and definitely seeing an increase in unhealthy people here in Ohio. Vaxxed and unvaxxed. Most people got fatter than they would have the last 2 years.

By comparison high vaxxed countries that didn't create as much panic (Sweden, Denmark, Finland) I don't believe are seeing increases in heart disease, as they didn't spend 2 years freaking out, inside, eating fast food delivered by door dash (or your UK equivalent) and saying it was patriotic to "Netflix and chill for 2 weeks/years".

Also interesting is the immediate increase in heart attacks very strict lockdown caused in New York City. See attached picture of spreadsheet comparing all cause mortality to ICD-10 codes releated to heart attacks. Immediate spike AFTER lockdowns implemented, spiking from average of 360/week to up to 1700 at peak. That tells us I think there is strong correlation to panic/stress and heart attacks we can measure in a very dense population. (As if this should be surprising in the slightest...).
