Referrals to Heart Failure Diagnostic Clinic
Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust
Well, this is interesting…
There was a significant rise in heart failure diagnostic clinic referrals beginning in October 2019 and peaking in January 2020. Could this be indicative of COVID before it was officially recognised?
The second wave, peaking in November 2020 is much worse even though COVID itself was much less severe. Is this due to the collateral harms of COVID policies?
There is a reversal in December 2020 when COVID vaccinations start, peaking in March 2021 when the first cohorts (the old and frail) were all done. Is this due to the associated COVID or direct effect of the vaccine itself?
Rather than dropping off like the previous waves that we suspect are associated with the virus, the referral levels have remained elevated throughout 2021 and into 2022. Is this the continued impact of COVID policies or the continuation of the vaccination program?
Does anyone in Public Health have the answers to these questions? Do they even know these questions exist?
