In Australia, Senator Gerard Rennick tears shreds off Brendan Murphy (Secretary of the Health Department) and Paul Kelly (CMO)

The public health officials claim to be acting on facts and evidence but forgot to bring any with them to the hearing. "Squirm" is a wonderfully descriptive term of their reaction to his questions.

Apparently, “it’s not true” that public health Australia got it wrong when they said the vaccine stops transmission (before, but not now, obvs! coz Omicron, yada, yada, yada) and that it still prevents severe illness and death.

The arrogance of Murphy and Kelly is a sight to behold as they make audacious claims based on “all the evidence” that they fail to produce to support their dogma¹.

Don’t ever forget these people and what they've done.

I reckon the patronising Kelly must have edited this piece of the NSW Surveillance Report though, because it also makes the same audacious claims (my emphasis):

COVID-19 hospital admissions, intensive care unit admissions, and deaths

COVID-19 vaccines are very effective in preventing the severe impacts of infections with the virus. Over 95 per cent of people aged 16 and over in NSW have received two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine, while more than 70 per cent of people eligible for their third dose have received it.

With such high vaccination coverage in the community, a high proportion of people admitted to hospital or intensive care unit (ICU) with COVID-19 are now vaccinated with two or three doses.

However, people who are not vaccinated remain more likely to suffer severe COVID-19. Note that some people with COVID-19 who are admitted to hospital or ICU are admitted for conditions unrelated to their COVID-19 infection, and these admissions will not be prevented by vaccination.

But then again, Kelly claims to be a details guy who doesn’t just “read the extracts” like the Senator. Maybe he didn’t have a hand in the Report after all (even though he continues to parrot the same message) because the actual evidence, the actual “truth” is that there were no unvaccinated people hospitalised with COVID (out of 310) or admitted to ICU (out of 25) and 1 death (out of 24):

Just so we’re not “cherry picking”, the bulletin from the week before had no hospitalisations, ICU or deaths in the unvaccinated. None. No hospitalisations or ICU in the one before that either... Those unvaccinated simply won’t get fricking sick with COVID, Goddamit!! Don’t they know there’s a narrative to support???

I don’t know about you but that doesn’t look like the “not vaccinated remain more likely to suffer severe COVID-19” to me. Maybe there’s another definition for “severe COVID-19” that doesn’t land you up in hospital or something? A kind of “fact” that only the public health officials are aware of but don’t ever share with anyone else when asked? Or, maybe my interpretation of “zero”, like Senator Rennick’s is just not up to Kelly’s Expert™ standard?

It’s kind of ironic that those whose arguments rely entirely on their “expertise” and “credentials” seem to be floundering way out of their depth when presented with the very basic evidence? Perhaps Murphy and Kelly should actually study the data before perpetuating the lie about the Safe and Effective™?

I know who I’d trust. Given that it’s a politician, that ought to speak volumes about Public “Health”!

But don’t worry, I’m sure they’ll take it all “on notice” and come back with the absolute truth on Thursday as promised. Still time to get your booster before that. You know it makes sense!
