The curious case of New South Wales

A wasted opportunity to avoid becoming a Nazi state?

When Australia started imposing lockdowns and basically copying all the other same mistakes as the rest of the “civilised” world, I was still a bit more naive than I am now and really wondered why they didn’t learn from those mistakes and avoid them.

Instead, they took them all not one step but several steps further and ended up being more Nazi than Germany and Austria.

As the COVID circus returns to town for yet another season, well past its time, is there something perhaps that everyone else can learn from New South Wales?

I don’t know what you see. It depends what tint your glasses have in a lot of cases but my acuity is about as high as it comes. And what I see is a state with no COVID that only gets COVID concomitant with the main rollout of COVID vaccinations and subsides when vaccination subsides.

You might call it a coincidence if you hadn’t observed the exact same pattern in 200 other countries and states (and again depending on the tint of your specs!).

What I then see is the sharpest increase in cases since this December that you could imagine “despite” almost 93% of the population aged 12 and over being vaccinated.

That doesn’t just look like failure of the vaccine to mitigate spread (which means it can’t possibly lead to herd immunity meaning vaccinating people who are not at direct risk of the disease is a complete waste of time, let alone an unnecessary risk), it looks like the situation might just be worse “because of” the vaccine?

Vaccine passport debate, anyone?

If that weren’t bad enough, not only is it most apparent that the vaccine weakened enough immune systems for SARS-CoV-2 to spread like it couldn’t before the vaccines arrived, but it looks very much like it weakened the most vulnerable to the extent that they died from it too.

The only saving grace is that we have confirmation again that Omicron is just a cold. No-one is dying from it. Of course, if “they” succeed in tweaking the vaccine to defeat this cold, who knows how virulent the next escape variant might be¹?

“That should get their attention”, as Bill Gates might say (with a rather knowing smirk)?
